Diabetes Technology
Diabetes technology refers to the devices that help people with diabetes monitor and manage their blood glucose more precisely and with less daily effort than traditional finger-prick testing and multiple daily injections. The three main types are continuous glucose monitors (CGM), insulin pumps, and hybrid closed-loop systems, and Dr Kasi Subbiah has specialist training and NHS experience running advanced diabetes technology clinics.
Who is it for?
Diabetes technology is used most often by people with type 1 diabetes, and is increasingly used by people with type 2 diabetes on insulin therapy. It is especially valuable for anyone struggling with unpredictable blood glucose swings, frequent hypoglycaemia, or hypo unawareness.

Technology and data review
Continuous glucose monitoring, flash monitoring, connected insulin pens, insulin pumps and hybrid closed-loop systems can support safer and more informed diabetes care. Review focuses on time in range, hypoglycaemia, glucose variability, overnight patterns, meal responses and whether alerts and settings remain appropriate.
Education and safety
Technology does not replace insulin-safety skills. People using a pump need a written backup-insulin plan, ketone-testing supplies and clear sick-day instructions because interrupted insulin delivery can lead to diabetic ketoacidosis. Device readings should be checked with a finger-prick test when symptoms and sensor results do not match or when the device advises confirmation.
UK-wide virtual reviews
Device reports and glucose data can often be reviewed securely by video across the UK. The consultation can assess patterns, discuss treatment settings and agree practical next steps, while physical examination, urgent care and device training requiring hands-on support are arranged locally.
