Specialist calcium assessment
Abnormal calcium is interpreted with albumin or ionised calcium, parathyroid hormone, vitamin D, kidney function, magnesium, phosphate, medicines and symptoms. A mildly abnormal result often needs confirmation.
Treatment and monitoring
Management depends on whether calcium is high or low and on the cause. It may involve monitoring, medicine changes, vitamin D or calcium treatment, osteoporosis care or referral for parathyroid surgery.

History and most result reviews can take place securely by video, while repeat blood tests, urine testing, DEXA and imaging are arranged locally. Severe confusion, seizures or collapse requires urgent assessment.
