Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is the persistent difficulty achieving or maintaining an erection sufficient for satisfactory sexual activity. It is common, particularly with increasing age, and can have physical, hormonal, and psychological causes, often a combination.

Possible causes

  • low testosterone
  • diabetes
  • cardiovascular disease
  • obesity and metabolic problems
  • certain medications
  • psychological factors such as stress and anxiety
  • lifestyle factors such as smoking and alcohol

What we offer

  • a thorough, non-judgemental assessment of symptoms and history
  • same-day blood tests checking testosterone, blood sugar, and cholesterol
  • a comprehensive treatment plan addressing both the underlying cause and effective symptom management

Hormonal and cardiovascular assessment

Erectile dysfunction can relate to vascular disease, diabetes, medicines, psychological factors, sleep problems, neurological conditions or low testosterone. Assessment reviews symptom pattern, libido, morning erections, medicines, cardiovascular risk and appropriately timed hormone tests where indicated.

Treatment and when urgent care is needed

Management addresses the underlying cause and may include lifestyle and cardiovascular-risk treatment, medicine review, psychological support or erectile-dysfunction medication when safe and appropriate. Chest pain or severe breathlessness with sexual activity requires medical assessment; an erection lasting four hours or more is an emergency.

UK-wide video consultations

History, results and treatment options can often be reviewed securely by video. Examination and cardiovascular, neurological or urological assessment are arranged locally when needed.
