GLP-1 & Tirzepatide Therapy

GLP-1 receptor agonists and dual GIP/GLP-1 agonists are injectable medications originally developed for type 2 diabetes that also produce significant, sustained weight loss by mimicking natural gut hormones that regulate appetite and blood sugar. Dr Kasi Subbiah’s NHS practice includes this therapy, bringing hospital-level expertise to private weight management care.

Who might benefit

  • People with obesity or excess weight affecting their health
  • People with type 2 diabetes who would benefit from both glucose control and weight loss
  • People who have struggled with sustainable weight loss through diet and lifestyle alone

What to expect

  • Full medical assessment including weight history and relevant blood tests
  • Honest discussion of realistic expectations and side effects
  • Ongoing review to monitor progress and adjust treatment safely

Assessment before treatment

Suitability depends on medical history, current medicines, weight-related conditions, previous treatment, pregnancy plans and the balance of benefit and risk. Review includes contraindications and precautions such as previous pancreatitis, gallbladder problems, significant gastrointestinal disease and relevant thyroid-cancer or endocrine-tumour history. Prescribing is never guaranteed at the first appointment.

Side effects, pregnancy and monitoring

Nausea, reduced appetite, constipation, diarrhoea and reflux are common, especially during dose escalation. Severe persistent abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, dehydration or symptoms of gallbladder disease require prompt clinical advice. These medicines are not used during pregnancy. Tirzepatide can affect oral-contraceptive reliability during initiation and dose increases, so individual contraception advice is important.

Review and UK-wide video consultations

Follow-up assesses weight response, nutrition, activity, side effects, blood pressure, glucose and other relevant results. Treatment may be paused or stopped when risks outweigh benefits or response is insufficient. Many reviews can take place securely by video across the UK, while measurements, tests and urgent assessment are arranged locally.
