Why Am I Always Tired? Hormonal Causes of Fatigue

Constant tiredness is one of the most common reasons people see a doctor, and while there are many possible causes, several important and very treatable ones are hormonal. This page helps you understand when fatigue might be worth a specialist hormonal assessment.

Hormonal causes of tiredness

  • underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism)
  • diabetes with poorly controlled blood sugar
  • Addison's disease
  • low testosterone in men
  • menopause and perimenopause
  • PCOS

What we offer

  • an unhurried discussion of your symptoms and their pattern
  • same-day blood tests where appropriate, covering thyroid function, blood sugar, iron and other relevant hormones
  • clear next steps whether or not a hormonal cause is found

Symptoms guide the tests

Thyroid disease, diabetes, adrenal or pituitary disorders and low sex hormones can cause fatigue, but each usually produces additional clinical clues. Testing should therefore be targeted, correctly timed and interpreted alongside sleep, mood, medicines, anaemia, nutrition and other medical causes.

What normal hormone results mean

Normal, appropriately selected endocrine tests make a significant hormone disorder less likely and help redirect investigation. Repeating broad panels without a clinical indication can create misleading borderline results and unnecessary treatment.

UK-wide video consultations

A detailed history and result review can usually take place securely by video. Examination, blood tests and non-endocrine assessment are arranged locally when needed. Rapid deterioration, collapse, chest pain, severe breathlessness or neurological symptoms require urgent care.
